Alvarez-Yairi DY-77 (1973)

 
 

Dreadnought. Made in Japan by K. Yairi. The K.Yairi models were the high end models of the Alvarez brand. The interior paper label has the serial #4098 and the date made “13-8-73” [August 13, 1973]. This guitar was in an out of the way spot in my store for over 30 years. So, it was not shown or put on my website.

♦Solid Spruce top with a very light aging toner.

♦Solid rosewood back and sides with very straight grain.

♦Mahogany neck

♦Ebony bridge with abalone dots in the bridge pins.

♦ Ebony fingerboard with slotted square abalone inlays.

♦Herringbone top purfling.

♦Wood soundhole rosette.

♦Wood purfling on sides and back.

♦Zig-zag (“zipper”) stripe inlaid in the center of the back.

♦Diamond volute on neck.

♦Grover “Pat. Applied For” machines.

♦Tortoise pickguard with beveled edges.

Specs: Nut: ~1 11/16”. Scale: ~25 3/8”. Lower bout: 15 5/8” Body depth: 4”-5”.

A really nicely designed and very well made instrument. The sound is warm and full.

Deluxe oblong hard shell case with arched lid. Black lining. Two large accessory compartments. Black inside cover cloth with white lining. In the photo of the interior of the case this cloth is laid out in front of the case with the white lining showing.
