Pimentel & Sons® Concert Indonesian Rosewood (1998)

Pimentel & Sons® is a small, family, classic guitar builder, located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. <www.pimentelguitars.com> It was established in 1951 by Lorenzo Pimentel, who dies a few years ago. The guitars are now made by his sons. Pimentel has a well deserved reputation for building very high quality guitars, typically costing many thousands of dollars.

When built in 1998 this guitar was the least expensive Pimentel model that had rosewood back and sides. Presently Pimentel guitars are only built to order. I believe that if ordered today a guitar like this one would cost several thousand dollars.

The photos of the top do not do it justice. The spruce is very narrow grained and extremely light in color. The appearance is more like Engelmann than Sitka. The back and sides are Indonesian rosewood. The neck is genuine mahogany. The fingerboard is ebony. The bridge is rosewood. The bindings and purflings are real wood. All body woods are solid.

I have strung the guitar with Savarez Set No. 520J, super high tension. The sound is warm, yet crisp, with very good projection.

Nut: 2”. Scale: 650mm (~25 3/8”). All gloss lacquer finish.

Canadian made arched lid hardshell case with built in combination lock. Brown lining.
