Taylor 555 12 String (circa 1980)

Model 555 Jumbo Twelve String. Good condition except neck crack at nut repaired by me about two years ago. Repair is tight and solid.

Guitar is all solid wood: Spruce top, Mahogany back, sides and one- piece neck. Ebony bridge and fingerboard. Herringbone center strip down the back. Gold Grover Rotomatic machines (one unmatched.). Body is all gloss finish. Neck is satin finish. Passive under saddle transducer (probably a Fishman).

Nut: 1 7/8”. Scale: 25 ½”. Lower bout: 17”. Body depth: 3 ¾” to 4 1/2”. Serial No. 4859. Circa late 1970’s or early 1980’s. There is no paper label on the neck block, so the two bolt heads that attach the neck are exposed as is the serial number which is stamped in the neck block.

The top finish has considerable checking and the guitar has a fair amount of dings, scratches and general wear. The first through eighth frets are worn, but lots of playing left before leveling and re-crowning or re-fretting will be needed. There are no body cracks, repaired or un-repaired. The saddle is low but the action is OK. However, a new higher saddle and next re-set are in the guitar’s future.

Very nice sounding. A working person’s guitar. Original Taylor arch lid hard shell case, red lining.
